Making a Mural with Liz Hernández

Mexico City-born artist Liz Hernández reveals the symbolism and intention behind her mural Conjuro para la sanación de nuestro futuro (A spell for the healing of our future), commissioned by SFMOMA. The Oakland-based artist draws inspiration from her upbringing—her grandmother’s supernaturalism, the vibrant hand-painted signs of Mexico City, and the rituals of the Catholic Church—to make an offering to a higher power for our collective healing.
