Established in 1967 by the Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art (SECA), the biennial SECA Art Award honors exceptional Bay Area artists who have not yet received significant recognition from major institutions. The five 2022 SECA Art Award recipients—Binta Ayofemi, Maria A. Guzmán Capron, Cathy Lu, Marcel Pardo Ariza, and Gregory Rick—share a focus on identifying, celebrating, and often reconfiguring the places, materials, and points of connection that define our shared human experience.
