Paul Klee, Galka Scheyer, and the Blue Four

March 17–September 9, 2018
Floor 2

In 1925, German-born art ambassador Galka E. Scheyer arrived in San Francisco with a crate full of artwork by a group of artists she coined the “Blue Four”—Lyonel Feininger, Alexei Jawlensky, Vasily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee. This intimate exhibition unites expressionist paintings and works on paper by the Blue Four alongside ephemera from the Galka Scheyer Archives as a means to celebrate Scheyer’s daring efforts to introduce European modernism to the Bay Area in the late 1920s.
