New Work

Photographs by Judith Joy Ross
September 16–November 28, 1993

From portraits of children to images of Congressional leaders and visitors to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Judith Joy Ross’s photographs have been acclaimed for their power, pathos, and beauty. Based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and dedicated to portraiture, the artist combines traditional techniques and straightforward poses with a striking ability to capture people at particularly revealing moments. Exploring such themes as the innocence of youth, the faces of political power, and the emotional toll of war, this installment of the New Work series challenges viewers to understand Ross’s subjects both as individuals and in the contexts of their own times and places.
