Günther Förg
May 4–June 25, 1989

German artist Günther Förg creates paintings, sculptures, photographs, and wall-painting installations that are intended to be viewed as complete environments as well as discrete objects. This exhibition includes a suite of 12 oil-on-lead works titled The Newport Paintings, five freestanding bronze steles, six bronze reliefs, and an environmental installation executed specifically for SFMOMA. Günther Förg: Painting/Sculpture/Installation was organized by the Newport Harbor Art Museum and is part of SFMOMA’s New Work series.
