Celebrating contemporary art in the Bay Area, the SECA Art Award exhibition presents work by five extraordinary artists — Sarah Cain, Kota Ezawa, Amy Franceschini, Mitzi Pederson, and Leslie Shows — who work with a diverse array of media and subject matter. The biennial award, sponsored by SFMOMA’s SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) art interest group, recognizes local artists of exceptional promise. From Cain’s mixed-media abstractions to Ezawa’s stylized re-creations of films and photographs, Franceschini’s conceptually informed activism, Pederson’s ruggedly beautiful sculptures, and Shows’s eerie depictions of a world shaped by industry, the exhibition showcases remarkable innovation in the visual arts.
This exhibition is funded by SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) with additional support from Linda and Jon Gruber and the Fleishhacker Foundation. This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Sally Lilienthal.
