For her SFMOMA commission, An amplification through many minds, Tanya Lukin Linklater researched Alutiiq cultural belongings held in the collection of the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology in Berkeley. She then developed a choreographic score with dancers for these displaced objects that explores temporal encounter as a form of repatriation. The resulting performance will take place in the Hearst Museum storage — behind closed doors, but documented — and the resulting footage will become part of a new video work that will enter the galleries in December.
Tanya Lukin Linklater (b. 1976, Kodiak, Alaska; lives and works in North Bay, Ontario) investigates insistence while reckoning with histories that affect Indigenous peoples’ lives, lands, and ideas. Within her work, she advances orality, conversation, and embodied practices including dance. She participated in documenta 14 as a member of the Wood Land School.
