8:30 a.m.–2 p.m.

Floor 2, Koret Education Center

Free with application

This Teacher Institute will center around SFMOMA’s retrospective exhibition Pacita Abad. Abad (b. 1946, Batanes, Philippines; d. 2004, Singapore) is best known for her trapuntos, a form of quilted painting made by stitching and stuffing canvases, along with her interest in giving visibility to political refugees and oppressed peoples through her artwork. Led by an interdisciplinary cohort of educators inspired by Abad’s work and legacy, teachers will engage in art making and “freedom dreaming” their classroom environment. There will also be opportunities for self-reflection through Qigong, acupressure, and acupuncture, facilitated by artist and acupuncturist Paolo Chico Flores.

Participants will be able to access the Pacita Abad exhibition in the morning, before public hours.

Please note: This workshop has limited capacity and requires an application. There will be an active waitlist, and a number of spots will be reserved for learning support paraeducators.
