SOLD OUT Frida Kahlo Saturday, June 28, 2008 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. In summer 2008 SFMOMA will offer an additional program for teachers in conjunction with the exhibition Frida Kahlo, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth. Using ArtThink, SFMOMA's student/teacher curriculum site with a focus on the interactive programs Art and Social Change and Self and Society: Tracing Identity educators will explore themes inspired by Kahlo's use of self-portraiture to address both personal and political concerns. SFMOMA ArtThink ArtThink offers theme-based activities in visual arts, language arts, history, and social studies to provide students with an in-depth and accessible look at the art of our times. Prepare your class before a Museum visit with Art Basics; follow up after touring the galleries with Detail Detective; and integrate art, history, and cultural studies into your core classroom curriculum with standards-aligned activities spanning grades 4 through college. Making Sense of Modern Art Making Sense of Modern Art provides an engaging, in-depth guide to modern and contemporary art in SFMOMA’s collection. Highlights include a comparisons timeline, images of artworks, documentary photographs, and video clips of artists, curators, and critics. Voices and Images of California Art Now available online, Voices and Images of California Art offers interactive, in-depth portraits of 11 of California's most celebrated artists. A rich mix of video and audio clips, plus reproductions of artworks, photographs, letters, and primary source documents, reveals how the arts are integral to our culture at large. SFMOMA Artcasts Download and listen to these creative and informative audio programs on portable MP3 players or personal computers before, during, or after your Museum visit. Produced every eight weeks, the zine-style podcasts present audio pieces related to the art on view in the Museum from a compelling array of artists, experts, and local luminaries. IN THE MUSEUM Teacher Resource Space in the Koret Center's Learning Lounge Teachers are invited to browse the teacher resource library, talk with education staff, and access multimedia kiosks that include information and video clips about artists, artworks, and art movements. Videos and exhibition-related slide sets are available for loan to SFMOMA teacher members. Featured artists include Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, René Magritte, and more.
